Description

Because we now only have 3 project groups, each group will serve as an advisory team to both other groups.

Following a progress briefing presentation, there will be an open Q+A period, a 10-minute period for advisory teams to summarize the progress briefing, then a 20-minute period where both advisory teams consult with the team that presented.

During this process, each advisory team will compile and submit a report containing the following sections:

1. Initial Summary:

A 3-5 sentence summary of the progress briefing presentation. You should mention the main areas of progress since the last briefing, highlighting important or notable achievements. You should also address any current concerns or areas in need of future work. This should be written such that you could email to the presenting team’s client as an update on where the team is currently at on the project. This should be prepared the 10-minute period immediately following the progress presentation.

2. Goal Review:

In collaboration with the presenting team, each advisory team will create a list of goals since the prior briefing with a score ranging from 0 to 10 with 0 reflecting the goal being completely neglected and 10 reflecting the goal being perfectly achieved with clear and abundant evidence of fulfillment. These numeric scores should be mutually agreed upon and they will have no impact on anyone’s grade (instead they should be a starting point for further reflection). After score, the advisory team should write a brief 1-3 sentence justification (the quality of these justifications will be graded).

3. Steering Advice

A bulleted list of suggestions for the team to pursue prior to the next progress briefing. For this you should draw upon your own areas of expertise and think about what things you’d be doing/changing if you were a member of the presenting team. (Note: there will be an advisor team take-over for one week later in the semester, so you will get a chance to actually take control of the project you are advising).

Additional Information

  • You are strongly encouraged to interact with the presenting team during their presentation. This means asking for clarification when necessary, or asking probing questions when you need more details about something in the presentation.
  • Advisory feedback reports are due by the end of the day. You should post your final report on the “Advisory Reports” discussion board on P-Web in the thread corresponding to the group you are advising.
  • To reiterate, your ratings/assessments will not be used to determine the presenting team’s grade on their progress briefing. Prof. Miller will evaluate the group independently. This means you should be as honest as possible in your assessment. It’s better to give a group a low score and clearly signal where the group should seek to improve rather than allowing them to continue to under perform in that area.
    • The effort you provide (as an advisory team member) will have an impact on your grade.
