The goal of this activity is to understand and practice a few best principles in communicating with data. Each group will be assigned a short section of the book “Communicating with Data” to read:

These sections are accessible via P-web in the “Documents” tab.

After taking some time to read your assigned section and discuss it with your group, your group will prepare a brief presentation containing no more than 3 slides. You should present at least one of the examples in your assigned section with an appropriate level of detail.

Some of the assigned sections are shorter and more straightforward than others, so if you have additional time I encourage you to read through all of Ch 4.4 and 4.5 to facilitate further discussion of its examples.

After presentations, you should:

  1. Read or skim the sections of “Communicating with Data” that you didn’t read during class.
  2. Revisit your work from Tuesday’s intro activity and identify at least one area where your communication strategies could be improved, or a communication strategy from today that is particularly relevant to Tuesday’s data analysis. Revise your visualizations, models, and/or executive summary to exhibit improved communication, and write a brief reflection (3+ sentences) explaining what you changed and why you believe this change is beneficial.
